Greetings ÉPK families,

It's hard to believe that we are once again at the beginning of a new school year; you can definitely hear a buzz in the air, yes wasps but also anticipation. This time of year always presents us with a jumble of emotions. A bit of sadness because we are saying goodbye to our lazy summer days, a bit of apprehension for the unknown, but mostly excitement for the beginning of a new adventure. If you are new to ÉPK we welcome you to our close knit community and trust that you will find a second home here with us. For our returning families it will be with joy that we reconnect and continue to build a friendship.

As previously communicated in our entry letter, September 1st and 2nd, are staggered entry days. Students with a surname starting with A-L will attend on September 1 and students with a surname starting with M-Z will attend on September 2. What a gift to have smaller groups on those first two days. Students and teachers will have the opportunity to have a little more time to get to know one another. On Friday, September 3, all students will attend school

Regrettably, the procedures for the beginning of the school year are not quite what we had hoped for. If you haven't had the opportunity please read carefully the 2021- 2022 School Year Plan (linked here) sent out by the district. At this time, we are unable to welcome parents inside the school therefore, on the morning of your staggered entry day, your child's teacher will greet them outside in the field. If you are dropping them off, may we suggest that you walk them over to the school field and you will be directed to the appropriate area. If your child is coming on the bus, please do not worry as school staff will be available to direct them. Please be advised that for all students taking the bus, masks are mandatory. Once all students have arrived, teachers will walk them over to their assigned entrance and the first day of school will officially begin. At the end of the day, teachers will again lead their students to the appropriate bus or the designated waiting area for pick up.

Many of the protocols that were put into place last year will be continued this year. These are indicated below. Please remember that these are fluid and could be revised according to the direction we receive from Alberta Education and/or Chief Medical Officer of Health.

These protocols can be seen as an inconvenience however, if we learned anything from last year is that despite these changes children flourished and our space was a happy one.

It is a blessing and privilege to lead this beautiful community of École Père Kenneth Kearns. Thank you for your continued trust and faith in us.
