Daily Prayer

Prayer is an integral part of our faith life as a Catholic people.  Here at École Père Kenneth Kearns Catholic School, we begin each day in prayer and invite parents to join us as a Catholic community to celebrate Faith in Action assemblies.

École Père Kenneth Kearns Catholic School's Patron Saint

Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle

He was born into nobility and was the eldest of 10 children. He was ordained in 1678. Jean was very involved in education and was guided by God.

He founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1725 as well as two other schools. He was the first to emphasize classroom teaching for both the rich and the poor. He also developed a revolutionary teaching method that is followed today in virtually every public and private school. Jean introduced a method that encouraged children to think and participate. At the time, individual attention was unheard of, and he argued that not everyone learns or understands at a uniform pace. He instructed his teacher to be patient and creative. he included the teaching of good manners, and that every child of God must be treated with courtesy and respect.

He is named the Christian Patron Saint of Teachers. He is known by the following quote: "Do you have such faith that it is able to touch your students and to inspire them with the Christian Spirit? This is the greatest miracle you could perform and the one that God asks of you since this is the purpose of your work." Signed De la Salle.

Feast day prayer for Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle

St. Theresa of Calcutta

September 4th, 2016 we celebrate the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta. Pope Francis has chosen this remarkable woman to be the centrepiece of his Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Marked by attention and love for all, particularly the marginalized, the last, the least and the lost, Mother Teresa of Calcutta gives us a magnificent example of Jesus salvific love in action.

Elk Island Catholic Schools is proud to announce the adoption of St. Teresa of Calcutta as the patron Saint of our division. The example of works of mercy she gave with her life underscore Elk Island Catholic’s own goal to “see Christ in everyone.” The face of Mother Teresa radiated the love and tender mercy of God to all whom she encountered. We ask for her prayers for our students, families and school staff.

St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us.
